This past weekend was the season opener for the WORS series here in Wisconsin. It was held at the Englewood Grass Farm located about 25 miles northwest of Madison. I really didn't know what to expect from the course as I've never ridden there. I pre-rode the course on Friday and it was fast and fun, so I was thinking the race would be a good one. Saturday mornings Citizen class race greeted everyone with clear blue sky's, wind and temps in the 50's. I was luck to get a random call up to front row and the race was on. My goal at the start of the race was to be as close to the front as I could before we got to the start of the single track at the top of a hill at the start of the race. I think I entered the single track in about 4th or 5th. The rest of the first lap I just tried to maintain a good race pace and save myself to have a strong final lap. The second and final lap of the race I was catching other racers and was starting to wonder was place I was in. With about a half a lap to go I saw other racer making his way up a climb and thought he looked like someone in my age group, and he was. I caught him and held back for a bit to save some energy for the final run in to the finish. I passed and put my head down and dug until the finish. At the finish I knew I had a good race and was probably in the top 3 for my age group, but wasn't sure. A half hour later the results were posted and I won my age group for the first time! I was pretty pumped. It was fun getting back racing and seeing all the friends and competitors that I haven seen since last season.
It should be a fun season. The next WORS race is in Iola on May 21st. In the meantime get out and ride and keep the rubber side down. -Brett Congrats to Shannon and Brett with podium finishes at the WORS Opener this past weekend. Shannon pulled off the 3rd place finish with Kid in arms. Brett got his first WORS Win with his group. Congrats to both of these Wisconsin Riders. #RIDEAMR |
