We went to Cross the Isthmus this past weekend. Braved the cold temps, which really were not that cold. The course was very different this year. Instead of torturous climbs back and forth the bowl we zipped around the course with some nice short punchy climbs and short downhills. The longer climb on the back side was tolerable. Once you crest the top you were treated to the barriers that were just far enough apart that some chose to jump back on the bike for a few pedal strokes. Then there was the cheeseburger jump. A classic that returned this year, the "jump the cheeseburger" was right there after the last barrier. The landing wasn't ideal, but some of us took the jump more than others. Dustin was in one of the earlier races and placed in the top 10 for the CX5 Men's race. Photos of his battle below. Hopefully Jake, who was also in that battle joins the team for 2018, yes it is time to recruit. :) Let us know if you are interested in joining for 2018. Liz hit the podium for a second place finish in the Women's CAT 4. She then challenged her husband Corey to do better than her in his race. Corey Answered with a 2nd place finish in the Men's Cat 3 race. He had a hard fought battle that came down to the line. He was just able to hold off the others in the Cat 3 group. Brandon had a fun race in the Single Speed group, scored major points for just jumping the cheeseburger all of the laps. He finished 13th in his group. Laura Andrews also returned to her second race of the year and placed 9th in the strong Women's 3 field. Overall fun day out at the races. One more big race ahead, where hopefully we see some 1st place finishes in the State Championships!!
Lets face it, cyclocross is really all about the hand ups, and this week we had cupcakes!! Thanks to the fans who were there handing out the treats. Fireman's Park was totally different than last year. Last year this is where the State Championships were held, and I (Brandon) tore my shoulder which still gives me issues. :) So this year there was no snow, and only mildly chilly. Liz went off first for the team. She fought hard for that podium but came up just short. She finished with the 4th place, but vowed to get revenge for the next race. (which she did) Corey and Brandon raced at the same time with Cat 3 and Single Speed going off just a minute apart. Brandon on his trusty single speed was slow, but did enjoy 3 cupcakes during the race, that didn't help and he placed 22nd. Corey had the biggest battle on his hands and ended up in 5th position. Another rock star placement for him. Just think, this course last year he was racing as a 5!! Glad he was given the chance to upgrade and shine in the higher levels. Chris Brown placed 13th in the Masters 1/2/3 35+ race. Another fun day at the races.
Cam Rock is another favorite cx course for many of our team. Who are we kidding almost all the races are our favorites because it is Cyclocross. Cam-Rock Cross was held in Cambridge, WI, on Nov 6, 2016. We had number of racers out on course throughout the day which just adds to the fun and excitement. Weather has been rather mild in Wisconsin this year so it was another short sleeve skin suit type of day. More photos to come soon!!!
