Hard work pays off. Leading up to the event AMR members put in countless hours working on the course prep & volunteering for the thousands of people who would be out that weekend in September. From raking, to sawing, removing stumps, course marshals, beer sales, clean up and more, we helped make it happen, which makes us proud. Biggest shout out is to AMR member Carl Bakker who led all the volunteers for the event. His hard work shows. The team had a great showing at the race too. See the slide show below. We had a number of teammates racing and here is the list of racers: Brandon Andrews, Laura Andrews, Chris Brown, Heather Gregoire, Liz Horning, Casey Kohner, David Lieck, Jesus Sanchez, Nico Schifano, Jeff Schifano, Storm Schmitt, Dustin Morfey, Mike Van Dyke, Brianne Van Dyke, Heidi Zepeda and Julie Saler* &Travis Saler* who race with Trek CXC team, but also support AMR. Hincapie Sportswear has been a long supporter of Angry Monkeys Racing. We love the kits that they help design and produce. As such we want to support them. The Gran Fondo Hincapie is one of their larger events and a fantastic event to attend. This year it will be on October 21 in Greenville South Carolina. Though Gran Fondo Hincapie is, at its essence, about picturesque, challenging rides alongside cycling pros, it’s also about the events that surround these rides. From the Celebrity Chef Dinner to the Warehouse Sale and the Family Fest, these events, along with the unforgettable rides, culminate in the ultimate cycling experience for cyclists, family, and friends. Check it out and tell them an Angry Monkey sent you! -AMR #RIDEAMR Trek 100- Trek Bicycle Corporation and the MACC Fund are pleased to present the 28th Annual Trek 100 Ride for Hope on Saturday, June 3rd, 2017. A few of us Angry Monkeys will be riding this event at different levels. Some of us are on unique fund raiser teams associated to specific kids who we are trying to honor. We also have our Angry Monkeys fund group. If you would like to join us or donate please visit this site. Proceeds from this great ride for a great cause support critical pediatric cancer and related blood disorder research. The Trek 100 is the mainstay of the MACC Fund's athletic fundraisers. It is one of the largest fundraising efforts for childhood cancer and related blood disorder research in the United States. This past weekend was the season opener for the WORS series here in Wisconsin. It was held at the Englewood Grass Farm located about 25 miles northwest of Madison. I really didn't know what to expect from the course as I've never ridden there. I pre-rode the course on Friday and it was fast and fun, so I was thinking the race would be a good one. Saturday mornings Citizen class race greeted everyone with clear blue sky's, wind and temps in the 50's. I was luck to get a random call up to front row and the race was on. My goal at the start of the race was to be as close to the front as I could before we got to the start of the single track at the top of a hill at the start of the race. I think I entered the single track in about 4th or 5th. The rest of the first lap I just tried to maintain a good race pace and save myself to have a strong final lap. The second and final lap of the race I was catching other racers and was starting to wonder was place I was in. With about a half a lap to go I saw other racer making his way up a climb and thought he looked like someone in my age group, and he was. I caught him and held back for a bit to save some energy for the final run in to the finish. I passed and put my head down and dug until the finish. At the finish I knew I had a good race and was probably in the top 3 for my age group, but wasn't sure. A half hour later the results were posted and I won my age group for the first time! I was pretty pumped. It was fun getting back racing and seeing all the friends and competitors that I haven seen since last season.
It should be a fun season. The next WORS race is in Iola on May 21st. In the meantime get out and ride and keep the rubber side down. -Brett Congrats to Shannon and Brett with podium finishes at the WORS Opener this past weekend. Shannon pulled off the 3rd place finish with Kid in arms. Brett got his first WORS Win with his group. Congrats to both of these Wisconsin Riders. #RIDEAMR |
