Race Report by Brandon Andrews- Cam-Rock CX Classic- It was fun. :) End of report. Just kidding. So I had never been to Cam-Rock, it really isnt that far from Madison. I should go more often. The course had some great single track mountain bike trails, one set of barriers, one set of logs (which I should have hopped) and some rolling terrain. The weather was chilly but still not that bad. I pulled my arm warmers down on my second lap. My race with the CX4 men was a hectic start. I didn't realize that the group had already staged for the start. I pulled up late and was the last guy in the group. Another friend Brian was also with me. We traded spots since he had a better chance of moving on the outside, still both of us were dead last. As I was moving into my spot, with out warning or a count down the whistle blew. I hadn't clipped in or anything. I tried to sprint up to the mid pack, but had two crashes right in front of me with in the first part of the race. Riders kept passing around me as I had to dismount and run around fallen riders. I really loved the course but couldn't make up time on riders due to the lack of passing. I ended up where I normally do, 38th of 51. Oh well. I need to figure out a plan that next year I can move up in my standings. Laura raced next for AMR, although as she was getting ready for the race she realized that the jersey she put in her bag was my other AMR jersey. My Large mens didn't fit her very well. She ended up wearing a Gore jacket with the arms zipped off. Laura raced hard and ended up 5th in her CX3 women's group. Joe King was the last AMR racer to race. Wearing his new AMR Kit he rocked the old guys class in open Masters. I am not sure what place he ended up but he looked very strong out there. It is great to have another AMR member up here in Madison. Slowly building this chapter of the team up. Oh and Shimano looks great in a AMR Vest. :) -Race Report by Brandon Andrews Race Report by Brandon Andrews- November 3rd, 2013. It was a foggy morning and a bit chilly but a number of AMR members came out to race at Waterloo. The course was slick in the corners, had a wicked off camber section, a run up with tacky mud and lots of leaves to slide on. The run up as always was my goal to ride up every time, success. Maybe I should focus on the rest of the race instead of just the challenging sections. CX4 Mens was a fast start as always, I lined up a bit more to the front so not to battle my way through traffic the first lap. I was able to get myself into a good position for my riding capabilities. Going back in forth with a few riders near me. I really wanted to catch the guy in front of me, but that didn't happen. Instead I started to worry about the group of 4 riders working together to catch me. One rider almost came to me but I was able to hold my position and finished 23rd. Still not great, but I am improving. Goal is by the end of the season get a top 20ish. Mio Susuki had a great start to her CX4 Women's race and seemed to be rocking the 4th place position the first lap. However due to an issue she had to drop out of the race. It was great to see her out racing this week. For CX3 Women, both Laura and Kathleen started out strong working together or riding together for the first two laps. Laura then passed Kathleen and tried to chase down the next rider. I was really proud of her racing today. I kept giving Laura the time gaps between her and the next rider, it started out at a minute then went down to 15 seconds. I wasn't really sure she was going to catch the girl, but right before the finish I saw the girl that had been in front of her with Laura just behind her both sprinting as hard as they could. Laura was unable to catch her at the line, but it was a fantastic finish and a strong ride by Laura. Overall the group had fun and we enjoyed hanging out at the AMR tent. Lots of good times today. Looking forward to Camrock next week. -Race Report by Brandon Andrews. |
