This weekend don't miss out in some great racing in Waterloo, Wisconsin. The TREK Cyclocross Collective Cup is a USAC & UCI C-2 Cyclocross Race(s) Sept. 21 & 22, 2013. Live video feed from the pro races will be on Cyclingdirt.org and it is going to be an awesome time. Angry Monkey Racers confirmed to race on Saturday &/or Sunday, Laura Andrews CX3, Brandon Andrews CX4, Mio Susuki CX4, and Kathleen Fitzpatrick CX4. Hopefully a few more will race. Second Race of the Wisconsin CX Series was a drastic change from the first race. Instead of highs around 90 and sunny sweaty conditions we had cold, wet, muddy, rain. It rained the entire time we were racing. I, Brandon, was able to race early before conditions really got serious. I ended up not really warming up before the race due to timing, and started off cold. However most of the first lap I stayed within the large frontish group. I was quite proud of myself. All the roadies around me kept sliding out and crashing in the wet grass and mud. I stayed upright even when one guy fell into me and I shoulder into a tree. It wasn't until the first gravel road section that was dry "non-technical" and slightly up hill did I realize that all these guys were faster than me. Overall I got great cheers riding up sections where others had failed or given up. Once again I ended up at the end of the field for overall standings for the CX4 Mens group, but it was fun. The second race of the day with an AMR member was the Women's CX 4 race with a new CX rider Mio Suzuki. As her first CX race ever, this was quite the experience with mud rain and full chaos. She did a great job on her first race. Laura raced again as a CX3 with the Women's CX123 group. I was very proud of her as she stayed in the first few spots during the first lap. She too rocked the mad handling skills throughout the course. On an off camber section before the sand pit she rode through the course where the men had fallen. The rain turned vigorous during her race and she sludge through. Knowing she had a flight to catch she finished the race and headed to the showers while I cleaned the bike and packed the car. Overall it was a great weekend, she did make her flight, and we look forward to next weekend's race at the Trek Headquarters. (Bit of beta, I rode the course for that race tonight, and there is an awesome downhill to uphill/run up that is going to see some carnage this next weekend. I was able to ride it up in practice, but there is no way thats going to happen during my race.) Next weeks race will be LIVE online for the Pro race on CyclingDirt.org. -Race report by Brandon Andrews, AMR Founder. Well it is that time already. Wisconsin kicked off its first race of the Cyclocross Series in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. This was very interesting to see what WI CX is all about. Honestly I still think the Georgia CX Series had some better races. But this week there was also a mountain bike race too, so numbers were low according to the locals. It was fun. For AMR it ended up just being Laura and myself. We do have some new recruits for AMR that will start racing later this month. My race lined up with about 30ish riders taking on the CX4 Cat. The course was bumpy grass and some gravel. There was one run up which was a steep climb and long. In a practice run I almost made it to the top within 10 feet, but it was just too steep. I ended up 24th in the group just trying to stay ahead of the guy who was lapping the field. Laura's race was the Womens 123, with the 3s scored separately. There were 7 riders in the 3s and Laura ended up 5th. Not bad for nursing a wasp sting and swollen leg from a ride two days ago. Shimano the pug was also there for all the fun and to make new friends. It was great to know that Cyclocross season has started! Looking forward to the many races ahead. - Brandon Andrews (Angry Monkeys Racing Member/Founder) |
